Countdown to Departure

Hi & welcome everyone!

Aditi & I have finished our paediatric exams and shall move out of the apartment tomorrow, which will bring 5th year to a close. Then on 25 September we'll board Qantas for South Africa!! We'll fly straight to Cape Town, then take ~2 weeks to travel along the coast up to Durban, then inland to our elective destination.

Our 8 week elective will be spend in Ingwavuma, at Mosvold Hopital and the non-profit Ingwavuma Orphan Care. Ingwavuma is a precinct of around 110,000 mostly Zulu people in the north-east corner (bordering Swaziland) of Kwazulu-Natal, the north eastern state. The area has an astronomical AIDS prevalence, and the orphanage is dedicated to caring both for orphans of AIDS and patients in the terminal stages of the illness.

We're very fortunately able to take over some essential medical equipment and medications, with the assistance and support of the Medical Students Aid Project (http://web.med.unsw.edu.au/msap/) a charitable group run by students of UNSW for students undertaking their elective in developing countries. The medications are supplies by Overseas Pharmaceutical Aid for Life (http://www.opal.org.au/)

Please keep checking the site, as we update it as we go!
